You’re constantly hearing me talk about mindset blocks (limiting beliefs) and the importance of actively addressing and clearing them before they end up defeating us. The truth is mindset blocks can be very dangerous if we choose to ignore them or allow them to linger in our heads. Yet, they can also be a sign of affirmation that we are pushing ourselves toward growth. Just like growing pains!
What are Mindset Blocks?
Mindset blocks are limiting beliefs that hold us back from achieving what we set for ourselves. When we are not as confident, when fears and insecurities invade our heads, when we’re constantly questioning ourselves and our abilities, we’re experiencing mindset blocks. So mindset blocks will prevent you from taking the necessary, often challenging, steps to evolve as the person you want to be. As a result, mindset blocks can potentially lead you to frustration and giving up.
Where do Mindset Blocks come from?
They usually pop up when you’re challenging yourself, thinking outside of the box or trying something new. In other words, when you choose to grow personally and professionally. But the truth is, mindset blocks are natural reactions. It’s you inner-self protecting you from possible failures and disappointments. In other words, they are your internal danger alarm letting you know that you’re entering the “unsafe zone.” After all, you’re stepping out of your comfort zone because you’ve chosen to be a better person, mom and career woman.
As I work with women, some seem to put too much emphasis on…
- What if’s (What if I am a failure as a parent?)
- Fears (I want the new position but I don’t have what it takes.)
- False assumptions (I don’t have formal education, so I won’t be taken seriously.)
- Self-imposed barriers (I should be better at monitoring my child’s device. But, I’m not good with technology.)
- What would people think… (“If they only knew who I really am…“)
Let’s dive into this for a second…
When your mindset blocks are not addressed and you’re too busy worrying about these issues, your mind and body will consequently consume a lot of energy to deal with these emotions and not much is left for you to use when you REALLY need it. Consequently, you will lose focus and clarity. And, your body and career will suffer the consequences.
“Don’t let mindset blocks dictate your life and stop you from becoming the person you want to be.”
Here are two tips to help you conquer mindset blocks:
- Take a moment to write down your mindset blocks. Write each mindset block that has been screaming at you inside your head.
- Once you have them down in paper or typed on your computer, ask yourself these 2 questions:
- What FACTS do you have to prove that these blocks are not true?
- What have trusted people in your life been affirming about you in relation to the blocks?
As you reflect on these questions and prove yourself with facts and affirmations of loved ones that these mindset blocks are not true, you will begin to experience freedom and peace of mind. You’ll begin to filter what’s true and what isn’t and see clearly. Surround yourself with authentic and caring people. Don’t be afraid to ask them to help you rationalize and prove these blocks wrong!
